My Site Migration in SharePoint

Now a days, I am working on migration from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013. We have choose the content db approach to migrate our portal, firstly we have to migrate our content from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 and then SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013. Right now I am working on migrate my site from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010, I'll share the migration steps of SharePoint My Site 2010 to SharePoint My Site 2013 migration in next few days.  I am sharing the steps that need to perform for my site migration 1.     Take a backup of the MOSS 2007 SSP and the My Site databases through SQL Server. 2.     Restore the SSP database as ‘Profile DB’ and the My Site Content database as ‘WSS_Content_MySites’ in the SharePoint 2010 -SQL Server instance. 3.     Create a Web Application through SharePoint 2010 Central Administration to host My Site. 4.     Attach and upgrade the restored 2007 My Sites data...

Download/Extract a WSP from SharePoint 2010 using PowerShell

In our recent project we were facing an issue with page layouts, so we need to check our WSP solution on server. In the Central Administration screen, a link is not available for you to download the WSP solution. We can extract the WSP from farm with custom code but I have used below 3 lines of PowerShell code to achieve my goal $spfarm = Get-SPFarm $wspfile = $spfarm.Solutions.Item("wspfilename.wsp").SolutionFile $wspfile.SaveAs("d:\extract\wspfilename.wsp") Make sure, you would be a member of Farm Administrators group and have permission to the configuration database.

App Model in SharePoint 2013 Basic

What is it? Microsoft has re-invented how third-party / custom-developed software can plug into SharePoint. Web part still remains; however Microsoft is pushing the new SharePoint App Model instead of web part. Apps are self-contained pieces of functionality that extends the capabilities of a SharePoint website. Apps will be executed outside the SharePoint Server, either in the on-premise server or in the Cloud based server.  This makes Apps easier for installation & clean-up.  A farm solution in SharePoint requires full trust whereas sandbox solutions are very restricted. In order to bridge this gap Microsoft has come up with this App model. Sandboxed Solutions are deprecated and new custom solutions should be provided through Apps. A new concept of App Store and App catalogue has been introduced for global and local app hosting respectively. Microsoft’s Motivation behind App Model SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint 2010 have gained large-scale adoption worldwi...

PowerShell script to clear Content Source (Crawled/Indexed Data)

In my recent project I have used FAST Search to crawl Oracle content source using BCS. We are getting error Error while crawling LOB contents. ( ILobSystem could not be found using criteria 'Id=xxxxx'. )  if we import BCS connector with updation after delete previous one and start crawl again. This is because of we have already indexed data in our indexer server and crawler is again trying to crawl the existing data that was not found. So we wrote a PowerShell script to delete/clear all indexed data for a particular content source. Copy the below PowerShell commands and create a .ps1 file, you have to modify only content source name and FAST Content SSA name. $sourceName = "Your content Source Name" $contentSSA = " Your FAST Content SSA Name" $source = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchCrawlContentSource -Identity $sourceName -SearchApplication $contentSSA $startaddresses = $source.StartAddresses | ForEach-Object { $_.OriginalString } $source...

Working with Remote BLOB Storage (RBS) and SharePoint

In my recent project, we are using the RBS for upload files to SharePoint. While we are uploading a file to SharePoint, it is stored in content database. In RBS, insted of upload files to SharePoint content database, use file system to store files. In SharePoint Foundation 2010, a binary large object (BLOB) is a large block of data stored in a database that is known by its size and location instead of by its structure — for example a Microsoft Office 2010 document or a video file. By default, these BLOBs, also known as unstructured data, are stored directly in the SharePoint content database along with the associated metadata, or structured data. Because these BLOBs can be very large, it might be better to store BLOBs outside the content database. BLOBs are immutable. Accordingly, a new copy of the BLOB must be stored for each version of that BLOB. Because of this, as a database’s usage increases, the total size of its BLOB data can expand quickly and grow larger than...
