Performance issue in newly installed & configured on-premises SP 2013 farm

Recently one of our project faced performance issue in newly installed & configured on-premises SharePoint 2013 farm. I have looked in to this problem and came to know something interesting, so I am sharing my experience with you all. Problem statement The SharePoint servers had frequent 8321 events error related to certificate validation. It turns out that SharePoint periodically checks the validity of the Security Token service certificates used for signing security tokens. To check the validity of these certificates the server tries to connect to the Internet and if there is no connectivity from the server to the Internet, it takes 15 sec before the connection attempt times out. This majorly impacts the overall performance of the SharePoint farm. Solution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2625048 is a KB article describing the issue. This is relevant since our servers do not have Internet connectivity. Per the suggestions in the document, I first tried importing the ce...

Autohosted Apps Preview Program end on June 30, 2014

Over the last few months, Microsoft has received a lot of great feedback on the Office 365 Autohosted Apps Preview experience. They heard loud and clear that while the goal of a friction-free development experience with the Autohosted Apps Preview was right on track with what developers wanted, the preview experience lacked some critical capabilities that you needed—for example, the ability to access all the features of Microsoft Azure, better insight and transparency into running apps for debugging and monitoring purposes, and more control and options for scaling apps. Microsoft is working closely with the Azure and Visual Studio teams to incorporate developers’ feedback and evolve the autohosted apps model, as well as to deliver a seamless experience for developers by the end of this year. Microsoft announced on dated 16th May 2014 that the Office 365 Autohosted Apps Preview program will end on June 30, 2014. After June 30th, developers will not be able to create new autohosted a...

Issues while debug Auto-Hosted app in Office 365 (SharePoint Online)

I am working on SharePoint app model with office 365. I had created a Auto-Hosted app in Visual Studio 2013 and trying to debug this app but I have faced a lot of issues in this process. I have tried to so the same in another environment (from home) and I am able to debug the same app so I have only one option to lodged a support ticket to Microsoft for the same, MS has checked my environment and came to know that few of URL and IP's is blocked on my office network. Microsoft has suggested to open that URL (white list) in network firewall. Microsoft has provided an article and the same is describe below. SharePoint Online URLs and IP Addresses IT administrators might want to control communication to specific SharePoint Online sites through an on-premises firewall. To do this, you’ll need to know the IP address ranges used by SharePoint Online. Outgoing IP Address Ranges Ports in your on-premises firewall might need to be opened to accept network traffic originating fro...

Adding master page to Auto-hosted apps

When we build a SharePoint hosted app, all pages and other resources are served by SharePoint from within the app web. For this reason, SharePoint hosted apps automatically inherit the look and feel of the host web and present custom functionality within the familiar SharePoint environment. This inheritance is not automatic when we create a remote hosted app because the remote web is served from outside the SharePoint environment. There is no requirement to ensure that your remote web looks like the host web but a similar look and feel reassures users, positions familiar links and controls where users expect them, and can ease the adoption of your app time. Steps to add host web master page to app pages 1.      To use the Chrome Control, copy the sp.ui.controls.js JavaScript library into your remote web project. 2.      Ensure each page in app includes <script> element to the above JavaScript file. < script   ...
